Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatam In English

Suprabhatam, which is translated as “auspicious dawn”, is a collection of hymns or verses recited early in the morning to awaken the deity every day.

The Venkateswara Suprabhatam was composed around 1430 A.D. by Prativadi Bhayankaram Annan Prativadi Bhayankaram Annangaracarya, who is also known as Anangaracharyar.

Sri Venkatesa Suprabhatam consists of four parts they are Suprabhatam, Sri Venkatesa Stothram, Prapatti, and Mangalasasanam.

Kousalya supraja Rama poorva sandhya pravarthathe
Uttishta Narasardula karthavyamdhaivamanhikam ॥ 1 ॥

Meaning: O Rama! Great Son of Kausalya, the Sun is about to rise in the Eastern skies; please arise to offer the early morning oblations

Uthishtothishta Govinda Uthishta Garuda dwaja
Uthishta Kamalakantha trilokyam mangalam kuru ॥ 2 ॥

Meaning: Awake! O Govinda! The holder of flag mast with the King of Aves-Garuda emblem; Cast aside your sleep to bestow your protection and solace to the Universe.

Matahassamastha jagatham MaduKaitabareh
Vaksho viharini manohara divya murthe
Sriswamini sritha jana priya dana seele
Sree Venkatesa dayite tava suprabhatham ॥ 3 ॥

Meaning: Sri Lakshmi, Goddess of riches! You reside in the heart of Sri Maha Vishnu; O celestial beauty-one that captures the attention of the minds of humans, O bestower of all benefits to those who fall at His feet, O dear and the better half of Lord Venkateswara! I offer this morning Pranamams to you.

Tava Suprabhatamaravindalochane
Bhavatu prasannna mukha chandramandale
Vidhi Sankarendra vanithabhirarchite
Vrisha saila natha Dayite Dayanidhe! ॥ 4 ॥

Meaning: O Devi! A fine morning to you whose eyes are like the petals of a lotus and the bright face of the full moon; the consorts of Brahma, Sankara and Indra pay their respects to you. The ocean of mercy! Dear to the Lord of the Vrishabadri!

Atryadi sapta rishayah samupasya sandhyam
Akasa sindhu kamalani manoharani
Aadaya Padayugam archayitum prapannah
Seshadri sekhara vibho tava suprabhatham ॥ 5 ॥

Meaning: O resident of Seshadri! the seven holy rishis (saptharshis) headed by Atri, having performed their morning sandhya, are at your feet offering beautiful lotuses and the waters of heavenly rivers. Please receive their humble offerings

Trivikramadi charitam Vibhudas stuvanti
Bhashapathih Patathi vasara suddhimaarat
Seshadri sekhara vibho thava Suprabhatham ॥ 6 ॥

Meaning: All the deities Gods from Brahma, Shiva, Shanmukha and others are praising your TriVikrama avathara, Brhaspathi, the Saint Guru of Devas is reading out the Panchangam (almanac). O Lord! May this morning be glorious

Poogadrumadi sumanohara palikanam
Aavati mandam Anilassaha divyagandhaih

Meaning: O the Mighty Lord who dwells in the Serpentine Hill of Seshadri! The morning scene is beautiful with the tossing of water lillies, coconut trees and transplanted young paddy fields. The morning breeze is blowing smoothly, carrying these pleasant fragrances, wishing a very good morning to you.

Unmeelya netrayugam uttama Panjarasthah
Pathrava sishta kadaleephala payasani
Bhuktva saleelamatah Keli sukah patanthi
Seshadri sekhara Vibho tava Suprabhatham ॥ 8 ॥

Meaning: O Venkateswara! The temple parrots are singing pleasantly after having tasted the fruits, payasa (a liquid Sweet offering) in your Pooja vessels and quenching their thirst; I pray for a good morning to you.

Tantree prakarsha madurasswanaya Vipanchya
Gayatyanantha charitham tava Naradopi
Bhasha samagram asakrit kara chara ramyam
Seshadri Sekhara Vibho tava Suprabhatham ॥ 9 ॥

Meaning: With his melodious musical instruments Sage Narada is singing your endless stories, set to music and dancing to the enchanting music with lovely hand gestures, may this morning be beautiful.

Bringavali cha makharanda rasaani viddah
Jangara geetha ninadhais saha sevanaya
Niryatyupanta sarasee kamalodharebhyah
Seshadri sekahra Vibho tava Suprabhatam ॥ 10 ॥

Meaning: O Lord who dwells on the sacred mountain Seshagiri! The swarm of bees from the lotus flowers of the nearby tank has come out after tasting the honey and carrying makharanda (sweet honey filled) pollen, waiting for your Divine glimpse on this early morning

Yosha ganena varadadni vimatyamane
Goshalayeshu dadi manthana teevra goshah
Roshat kalim vidadate kakhubhascha kumbah
Seshadri sekhara Vibho tava suprabhatham ॥ 11 ॥

Meaning: O Universal Lord! The milkmaids are churning their curd pots and are singing; the two sounds are synchronizing with each other giving origin to a new morning raga. May this morning be glorious to you!

Padmesa mitra satha pathragathali vargah
harthum sriyam kuvalayasya nijanga Lakshmya
Bherininadhamivabibhrati teevranadham
Seshadri sekhara vibho tava Suprabhatham ॥ 12 ॥

Meaning: The swarm of bees in the lotuses is friends of the sun and is making loud sounds with a view to surpassing the splendor of the lustrous blue lotuses. Lord of Seshachala! May it be an auspicious dawn to Thee.

Srimannabhishta varadakhila lokhabando
Sri Srinivasa dayaika sindho
Sri devata griha bhujantara divyamurte
Sri Venkatachalapathe tava suprabhatham ॥ 13 ॥

Meaning: O Srinivasa! The bestowal of all desired boons, closest kith and kin of the universe, ocean of compassion, O Lord of charming! Let this morning bring glory to you.

Sri swami pushkarinikaplava nirmalan kah
sreyorthino Hara Virincha Sanandanadyah
Dvare vasanthi vara vetrahatottamangah
Sri Venkatachalapathe tava suprabhatam ॥ 14 ॥

Meaning: O Lord of Lords! Having taken their holy dip in the Swami pushkarini, Gods like Brahma and Siva and sages such as Sanandana are waiting at the door for your Dharsan with their hands raised holding the cane (for controlling the crowds). Good morning to you.

Meaning: Glory to you O Lord of Seven Hills! Whose abode is described incessantly in the Holy books, variously as Seshachala, Garudachala, Venkatadri, Narayanadri, Vrishabahadri and Vrishadri as the important seven hills in which You reside?

Sevaparah Siva Suresa krisanudharma
Rakshombunatha Pavamana Dhanadhi nathah
Baddanjalif pravilasan nija sirsha desah

Meaning: O Lord! Desirous of serving you, Siva and Indra with their heads bowed and Kubera the lord of Wealth and the protectors of the eight directions (Dikpalakas) with their hands folded in front of you in reverence are waiting for your call to discharge their daily duties.

Dhateeshu te Vihagaraja mrigadhiraja
Nagadhiraja gajaraja haydhirajah
Swasvadhikaramahimadhikam arthayante
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 17 ॥

Meaning: O Venkatesa! Seeking your benevolent look of approval, the Lord of Aves- Garuda and other leaders of your retinue are jostling for your first look to enhance their supervisory authority. Good morning to you.

Suryendu Bhauma Budha Vakpati Kavyasowri
Swarbhanu Ketu divishat parishat pradhanah
Tvaddasa dasa charamow atidasa dsah
Sri Venkatachala pate tava suprabhatam ॥ 18 ॥

Meaning: O Lord! The overlords of the nine planets, (Surya, Chandra, Angaraka, Budha, Guru, Shukra, Sani, Rahu, Kethu) are ready waiting to offer you their service.

Tvat pada dooli parita spuritottamangah
Svargapavarga nirapeksha nijantarangah
Kalpagamakalaniah aakulatam labhante
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 19 ॥

Meaning: Your devotees having been purified by the dust of your feet, are serving you with intense devotion forgetting their real interest in Moksha and doubting whether they could get this opportunity in their next birth or not.

Tvad gopuragra sikharani nirikshamanah
Svargapavarga padaveem paramam srayantah
Martya manushya bhuvane matim aasraaynte
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 20 ॥

Meaning: O Venkateswara! People who are interested to rest at Your divine feet seeking mukti, look at the Vimana (crown) of your temple and want to serve you in this earthly abode forgetting what they came for.

Sri Bhoomi Nayaka dayadi gunamrutapte
Devadideva jagadeka saranya Moorte
Sriman Anantha Garudadhibhir architangre
Sri Venkatachala pate tava suprabhatam ॥ 21 ॥

Meaning: Morning wishes to you O Srinivasa! You are the lord of the Mother Earth (Bhoomi). You possess innumerable qualities like compassion, Love etc. Lord of all Gods! The only refuge of the universe and waited on at your feet by Nityasuris (eternal companions) like Ananta and Garuda. Good morning.

Sri Padmanabha Purushottama Vasudeva
Vaikunta Madhava Janardana Chkrapane
Srivatsa chihna saranagata Parijata
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 22 ॥

Meaning: O Padmanabha, Purushottama, Vasudeva, Vaikunta Madhava, identified by your insignias of Srivatsa and the disc (Sudarshana chakra) in your hand, You are like the heavenly Parijata tree in granting the wishes of those who surrender at your feet. A fine morning to you my Lord!

Kandarpa darpahara sundara divya murte
Kanta kuchamburuha kudmala lola dhrishte
kalyana nirmala gunakara divya kirte
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 23 ॥

Meaning: Your Divyamangala vigraha(Divine posture) is so beautiful as to vanquish the pride of Manmatha (Lord of celestial Beauty). You are renowned in the Worlds for your unblemished auspicious qualities and you cast your blossoming eyesight on the fine parts of Mahalakshmi. Good morning to you.

Meena krite kamatakola Nrisimha varnin
Swamin Paraswatah Tapodhaa Ramachandra
Seshamsa Rama Yadunandana Kalki rupa
Srivenkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 24 ॥

Meaning: O Venktesa! You have helped the world by your ten avatars like Matsya, Kurma, Narasimha, Vamana, Parasu, Rama etc. Good morning to you.

Ela lavanga ganasara sugandhitirtham
Divyam viyat sariti hema ghateshu poornam
Dhrutva adya vaidhika sikhamanayh prahrishtah
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 25 ॥

Meaning: O Venkatachalapati, brahmins with Vedic chants are waiting upon you with pots of Akasa Ganga water scented with cardamom, clove and other spices. May this be a glorious morning to You.

Bhaswanu deti vikachani saroruhani
Sampoorayanti vihagih kakubho vihangah
Sri Vaishnavas satatam artitha mangalaste
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 26 ॥

Meaning: The sun has raised and flowers have opened their petals; the chirping of birds is echoed from all directions. Sri Vaishnavas are waiting to sing your praise. Let this morning be glorious to you.

Brahmadayas sura varas sa Mahrshayaste
Santas Sananthana mukhas tava yogi varyah
Dhamantike tava hi mangala vastu hastah
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 27 ॥

Meaning: O Venkatesa! Gods like Brahma, sadhus and yogeswaras like Sanaka and Sanatana, are waiting at your gates bearing auspicious Pooja materials. Morning glory to you.

Lakshmi Nivasa niravadya gunaika sindho
Samsara sagara samuttaranaika seto
Vedanta vedya nijavaibhava bhakta bhogya
Sri Venkatachalapate tava suprabhatam ॥ 28 ॥

Meaning: O Lord the abode of Lakhmi, the ocean of good qualities, the only boat to cross the ocean of Samsara, the true knowledge sought by Vedanta(Upanishads), the lord of true glory enjoyed by devotees, glory to you.
