Bhagavadshata Namavali Dramidopanishad Sara Introduction:
The twin works dramidopanishad sara and dramidopanishad tatparya ratnavali of Sri Vedanta Desika are the essence and abstract of 1102 verses or pasurams of Sri Nammazhwar celebrated under the name of Thiruvaimozhi. Sri Vedanta Desika calls Thiruvaimozhi ‘sarviya shakha’ or the Veda that speaks to everyone and says that Sri Nammazhwar discovered this ‘sarviya shakha’.
Sri Nammazhwar in his Thiruvaimozhi brought to light the countless auspicious attributes of God. Sri Vedanta Desika selected 1001 auspicious attributes from verses sung by Sri Nammazhwar and placed them in dramanpanishad sara and drampanishad tatparya ratnavali.
The main body of 20 slokas of drampanpanishad sara, consisting of 26 slokas in total, presents the quintessence of the 10 shatakas or centuries of Thiruvaimozhi. The 100 verses of dramapanishad tatparya ratnavali sum up more than one thousand pasurams of Sri Nammazhwar. The essence and philosophy contained in each Thiruvaimozhi as dashaka or decline of ten stanzas are summed up in a single shloka by Sri Vedanta Desika.
A new collection of a 1000 names was removed and extracted by extracting an appropriate name from God from each of the ten stanzas forming the dashaka, thus forming the sahasranama.
The ten auspicious attributes selected in each dashaka will be a primary attribute of the Lord. Together they form Shatanama.
The ten main attributes selected from each shataka give ten very important attributes of the Lord, these form the dashanama.
These lead to the main propitious attribute of God on which depends the realization of the highest human aspiration to liberate oneself from bondage of karma, equality with divine beings and fraternity with one’s fellow beings.
Sri Vedanta Desika gave mumukshus the only name that contains the Lord’s most important propitious patron attribute, which can be repeated and realized even by those who have very little time for pooja. It is: OM devaya shrishaya svasiddheh karanaya namah. This shows that the Lord himself is both the end and the means … the goal and the way.
Based on the names Sri Nammazhwar’s Thiruvaimozhi in Tamil and Sri Vedanta Desika’s dramidopanishad Sara and dramidopanishad Tatparya Ratnavali in Sanskrit, these names combine the combined flavor and aroma of what is called Ubhaya Vedanta or the double philosophy inscribed in the northern language. Sanskrit and in the Tamil language of the south. The work is therefore typically from South India and truly representative of Ubhaya Vedanta Vaishnavism.
