॥ Atmaraksana Sri Pratyangira Mantra Japa ॥

॥ śrī pratyaṅgira atmaraksana mantra: (आत्मरक्षणा श्री प्रत्यङ्गिरा मन्त्र:) ॥

॥ 1. Viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) ॥

asya śrī pratyaṅgira maha mantrasya । maha bhairava rsiḥ।
anustup chandaḥ । śrī pratyaṅgira devata ।
aim̐ bījam । śrīm̐ śakti: । svaha kīlakam ।
sarva kamya siddhyartham । mama śarīra raksanartham ।
mama sarva śatrunaśanartham jape viniyogaḥ ॥

अस्य श्री प्रत्यङ्गिरा महा मन्त्रस्य । महा भैरव ऋषिः।
अनुष्टुप् छन्दः । श्री प्रत्यङ्गिरा देवता ।
ऐँ बीजं । श्रीँ शक्ति: ।
स्वाहा कीलकं । सर्व काम्य सिद्ध्यर्थं ।
मम शरीर रक्षणार्थं । मम सर्व शत्रुनाशनार्थं जपे विनियोगः ॥

Meaning: This prayer/mantra Japa is to invoke Śrī Pratyaṅgira and perform Her mantra Japa to obtain Her complete grace in all aspects and especially for the removal of all enmity and negativity afflicting us. The sage (rsiḥ) is Maha Bhairava, the meter (chandas) for the mantra is Anustup and the deity is Śrī Pratyaṅgira, the seed (bījam) is aīm̐, the power or śakti is śrīm̐. The secret to unlocking the mantra or kīlakam is svaha.

॥ 2.laghunyasa śarīranyasadi kramaḥ (लघुन्यास शरीरन्यासदि क्रमः) ॥

3 śrīpratyaṅgira devatayai namaḥ hrdaye श्रीप्रत्यङ्गिरा देवतायै नमः हृदये Open index, middle and ring fingers of the right hand and place them on the heart chakra.
4 hrīm̐ bījayai namaḥ guhye ह्रीँ बीजायै नमः गुह्ये Touch the private parts area with the ring, middle and thumb fingers of the right hand joined together at the top.
5 śrīm̐ śaktaye namaḥ padayoḥ श्रीँ शक्तये नमः पादयोः Touch the legs with the ring, middle and thumb fingers of the right hand joined together at the top.
6 svaha kīlakayai namaḥ nabhau स्वाहा कीलकायै नमः नाभौ Touch the navel with the ring, middle and thumb fingers of the right hand joined together at the top.
7 mama śrī dharmartha kama moksarthe jape viniyōgaḥ

मम श्री धर्मार्थ काम मोक्षार्थे जपे विनिय्ōगः सर्वाङ्गे Run the fingers of both hands from the head to the toe on the sides of the body.
8 aim̐ namaḥ nabhyadi padantam ऐँ नमः नाभ्यादि पादान्तं Run the fingers of both hands from the navel to the legs.
9 hrīm̐ namaḥ kanthadi nabhyantam ह्रीँ नमः कण्ठादि नाभ्यान्तं Run the fingers of both hands from the throat to the navel.
10 śrīm̐ namaḥ mūrdhadi kanthantam श्रीँ नमः मूर्धादि कण्ठान्तं Run the fingers of both hands from the face to the throat.
11 aim̐ namaḥ vama panītale ऐँ नमः वाम पाणीतले Run the right fingers on the left hand palm.
12 hrīm̐ namaḥ daksapani tale ह्रीँ नमः दक्षपाणि तले Run the left fingers on the right hand palm.
13 śrīm̐ nama: ubhayapanītalau (ubhayoḥ) श्रीँ नम: उभयपाणीतलौ (उभयोः) Run the opposite side fingers on the back side of each palm.

5 mama raksa raksa mama śatrūn bhaksa bhaksa kanisthikabhyam namaḥ मम रक्ष रक्ष मम शत्रून् भक्ष भक्ष कनिष्ठिकाभ्यां नमः Use both the thumbs on the little fingers.
6 om̐ svaha karatalakaraprsthabhyam namaḥ ॐ स्वाहा करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm.

॥ 4. aṅganyasaḥ (अङ्गन्यासः)

4 pratyaṅgire kavacaya hum̐ प्रत्यङ्गिरे कवचाय हुँ Cross both the hands and run the fully opened palms from shoulders to finger tips.
5 mama raksa raksa mama śatrūn bhaksa bhaksa netratrayaya vausat मम रक्ष रक्ष मम शत्रून् भक्ष भक्ष
नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट्
Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ajña cakra.
6 om̐ svaha astraya phat ॐ स्वाहा अस्त्राय फट् Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand.
7 iti sadaṅga nyasaḥ इति षडङ्ग न्यासः

॥ 5. dhyanam (ध्यानं) ॥

aśambara mukta kaca ghanacchavirdhyeya
sacarmasi karahi bhūsana ।
damstrogra vaktra grasitahitatvaya
pratyaṅgira śaṅkara tejaserita ॥

आशाम्बरा मुक्त कचा घनच्छविर्ध्येया
सचर्मासि कराहि भूषणा ।
दंष्ट्रोग्र वक्त्रा ग्रसिताहितात्वया
प्रत्यङ्गिरा शङ्कर तेजसेरिता ॥

Meaning: I meditate upon on the Divine Mother Śrī Pratyaṅgira, dark as the night sky with Her hair loosened and wavy. She is clothed by the vast deep space and is enormous. She holds a sword and a shield in Her hands and is decorated with ornaments around Her arms. She has enormous diamond-like teeth and a very wide gaping mouth. She takes in all the negative and inimical forces and frees us from all karmas impacting our progress. Glory be to the Divine Mother, Who shines with the spiritual energy of Lord Śaṅkara/Śiva.

॥ 6.Pañcapūja (पञ्चपूजा) ॥

3 yam̐ – vayvatmikayai dhūpamaghrapayami यँ – वाय्वात्मिकायै धूपमाघ्रापयामि Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the index fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.
4 ram̐ – agnyatmikayai dīpaṁ darśayami रँ – अग्न्यात्मिकायै दीपं दर्शयामि Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.
5 vam̐ – amrtatmikayai amrtaṁ mahanaivedyaṁ nivedayami वँ – अमृतात्मिकायै अमृतं महानैवेद्यं निवेदयामि Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.
6 sam̐ – sarvatmikayai sarvopacara pūjam samarpayami सँ – सर्वात्मिकायै सर्वोपचार पूजाम् समर्पयामि Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of each fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

॥ 7. japamala mantram (जपमाला मन्त्रं) ॥

Recite the below mantra once, to pray to the japa mala and invoke the blessings for a fruitful japa.

om mam male mahamaye sarvamantra svarūpini।
caturvarga stvayinyasta stasmanye siddhida bhava॥

ॐ मां माले महामाये सर्वमन्त्र स्वरूपिणि।
चतुर्वर्ग स्त्वयिन्यस्त स्तस्मान्ये सिद्धिदा भव॥

॥ 8. Guru Mantra (गुरु मन्त्र) ॥

Recite the following guru mantra once, to seek the blessings of all gurus and the Guru.

om hrīm siddhaguro prasīda hrīm om

Meaning: The bīja (seed mantra) om̐ represents auspiciousness and is the śabda brahman or the Superconsciousness manifested as sound. The vagbhava bīja (seed mantra) aim̐, represents all knowledge, spiritual and material. The maya bīja (seed mantra) hrīm̐ represents the manifestation of everything as the power of Creation, sustenance as the power of Preservation and transformation as the power of Destruction. It is also related to concentration, focus, energy, drive, self-esteem, high power and is the main śakti mantra. The Laksmī bīja (seed mantra) śrīm̐, represents abundance, wealth, well-being and prosperity.

This mantra is a prayer to the Goddess Śrī Pratyaṅgira, asking Her to come to our rescue and remove all negative energies and inimical forces acting upon us and also to free us from all bad karma and help with our well-being.

॥ 10. aṅganyasaḥ (अङ्गन्यासः)

Take water in uttarani and by reciting the following śloka, offer the water to the earth.
guhyatiguhyagoptrī tvaṁ grhanasmat-krtaṁ japam।
siddhirbhavatu me devi tvatprasadanmayi sthira ॥
गुह्यातिगुह्यगोप्त्री त्वं गृहाणास्मात्कृतं जपम्।
सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देवि त्वत्प्रसादान्मयि स्तिरा॥

॥ 14.japanamtaram malamantram(जपानंतरं मालामन्त्रं):-


Recite the below śloka and mantra, followed by placing the mala upon the top of the head and then place it back in the mala bag and conceal it. It should NOT be worn.
śloka॥ om tvam male sarvadevanam prītida śubhada bhava।
śubham kurusya me bhadre yaśo vīryam ca dehime॥
श्लोक॥ ॐ त्वं माले सर्वदेवानां प्रीतिदा शुभदा भव।
शुभं कुरुष्य मे भद्रे यशो वीर्यं च देहिमे॥
