॥ Sri Surya Deva Navakshari Mantra ॥

॥ Śrī Sūrya/Saura Deva navaksarī mahamantraḥ / श्री सौर नवाक्षरी महामन्त्रः ॥
Source: Upasana Parijatam.
Purpose: Perfect health, removal of all miseries due to the ill placement or aspects of Sun in one’s horoscope.
Pre-requisites: Initiation to the mantra is recommended.

॥ 1. viniyogaḥ / विनियोगः) ॥

asya śrī saura navaksarī mahamantrasya ।
brahma rsiḥ ।
gayatrī chandaḥ ।
śrī savita devata hrdaye ।
kham̐ bījam ।
svaha śaktiḥ ।
kholkaya kīlakam ।
śrī savitr devata prasada siddhyarthe śrī saura navaksarī mahamantra jape viniyogaḥ ॥

अस्य श्री सौर नवाक्षरी महामन्त्रस्य ।
ब्रह्म ऋषिः ।
गायत्री छन्दः ।
श्री सविता देवता हृदये ।
खँ बीजं ।
स्वाहा शक्तिः ।
खोल्काय कीलकं ।
श्री सवितृ देवता प्रसाद सिद्ध्यर्थे श्री सौर नवाक्षरी महामन्त्र जपे विनियोगः ॥

Meaning:
This prayer/mantra Japa is to invoke Śrī Sūrya deva and perform His mantra Japa to obtain His complete grace in all aspects, specifically for the removal of all types of maladies in one’s horoscope caused due to the aspects or bad placement of Sun in one’s natal horoscope, as well as to get rid of all types of serious ailments. The sage (rsiḥ) is the divine seer Brahma, the meter (chandas) for the mantra is Gayatrī and the deity is the health giver Śrī Savita (another name of Lord Sūrya) deva, the seed (bījam) is kham̐, the power or śakti is svaha. The key (kīlakam) to unlock the mantra is kholkaya.

॥ 2. rsyadi nyasa / ऋष्यादि न्यास ) ॥

4 kham̐ bījaya namaḥ guhye खँ बीजाय नमः गुह्ये Touch the genitalia with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.
5 svaha śaktaye namaḥ padayoḥ स्वाहा शक्तये नमः पादयोः Touch the feet with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.
6 kholkaya kīlakaya namaḥ nabhau खोल्काय कीलकाय नमः नाभौ Touch the navel area with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.
7 śrī savitr devata prasada siddhyarthe śrī saura navaksarī mahamantra japeviniyogaya namaḥ sarvaṅge श्री सवितृ देवता प्रसाद सिद्ध्यर्थे श्री सौर नवाक्षरी महामन्त्र जपे विनियोगाय नमः सर्वाङ्गे Run both the palms all over the body.

6 om ̐sūksmarūpaya svaha  karatalakaraprsthabhyam namaḥ ॐ सूक्ष्मारूपाय स्वाहा करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm.

॥ 4. aṅganyasaḥ / अङ्गन्यासः) ॥

2 om ̐sūksmakaraya svaha śirase svaha ॐ सूक्ष्माकाराय स्वाहा शिरसे स्वाहा Open the middle and ring fingers of the right hand and touch the top of the forehead.
3 om ̐sūksmabalaya svaha śikhayai vasat ॐ सूक्ष्मबलाय स्वाहा शिखायै वषट् Open the right thumb and touch the back of the head. This is the point where the tuft of hair, is kept.
4 om ̐sūksmabalaya svaha kavacaya hum̐ ॐ सूक्ष्मबलाय स्वाहा कवचाय हुँ Cross both the hands and run the fully opened palms from shoulders to fingertips.
5 om ̐sūksmakaraya svaha netratrayaya vausat ॐ सूक्ष्माकाराय स्वाहा नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ajña cakra.
6 om ̐sūksmarūpaya svaha astraya phat ॐ सूक्ष्मारूपाय स्वाहा अस्त्राय फट् Open up the left palm and strike it three times with the index and middle fingers of the right hand.
7 iti sadaṅga nyasaḥ इति षडङ्ग न्यासः

भूर्भुवस्सुवरोमिति दिग्बन्धः ॥
May all the directions be sealed and may no thoughts or disturbances impact our ability to recite the hymn.

॥ 5.dhyanam / ध्यानं) ॥

rakta padma dvayam hastairbibhratam varadabhaye ।bandhūkabham trinetram aravindhyayetsu vibhūsitam ॥
रक्त पद्म द्वयम् हस्तैर्बिभ्रतम् वरदाभये ।बन्धूकाभम् त्रिनेत्रम् अरविन्ध्यायेत्सु विभूषितम् ॥
Meaning:
Salutations and praise be to the lotus feet of the Divine Father Lord Sūrya deva, who is holding two red lotuses with two hands signifying the awakening of inner consciousness and also displaying the boon bestowing vara mudra and the fear allaying Abhaya mudra with another set of hands. He has a reddish-pink complexion like the midday flower and is three-eyed (awakened ajña chakra). May He remove all our fears and bestow all our wishes and desires.

॥ 6. Pañcapūja / पञ्चपूजा ॥

2 ham̐ – akaśatmikayai puspaiḥ pūjayami हँ – आकाशात्मिकायै पुष्पैः पूजयामि Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the thumbs of both hands with the upper tip/nails of the index fingers, with the back of the hand facing us.
3 yam̐ – vayvatmikayai dhūpamaghrapayami यँ – वाय्वात्मिकायै धूपमाघ्रापयामि Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the index fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.
4 ram̐ – agnyatmikayai dīpaṁ darśayami रँ – अग्न्यात्मिकायै दीपं दर्शयामि Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.
5 vam̐ – amrtatmikayai amrtaṁ mahanaivedyaṁ nivedayami वँ – अमृतात्मिकायै अमृतं महानैवेद्यं निवेदयामि Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.
6 sam̐ – sarvatmikayai sarvopacara pūjam samarpayami सँ – सर्वात्मिकायै सर्वोपचार पूजाम् समर्पयामि Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of each finger of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

॥ 7. Japamala Mantram / जपमाला मन्त्रं ॥

Recite the below mantra once, to pray to the japa mala and invoke the blessings for a fruitful japa. om̐ mam male mahamaye sarvamantra svarūpini ।
caturvarga stvayinyasta stasmanye siddhida bhava ॥
ॐ मां माले महामाये सर्वमन्त्र स्वरूपिणि ।
चतुर्वर्ग स्त्वयिन्यस्त स्तस्मान्ये सिद्धिदा भव॥

॥ 8. Guru Mantra / गुरु मन्त्र ॥

Recite the following guru mantra once, to seek the blessings of all gurus and the Guru.
om̐ hrīm̐ siddhaguro prasīda hrīm̐ om̐ ।
ॐ ह्रीं सिद्धगुरो प्रसीद ह्रीं ॐ ।

॥ 9. Atha Śrī Sūrya deva navaksarīMantraḥ / अथश्री सूर्य देव नवाक्षरी महामन्त्रः


Following is the 9 lettered Śrī Sūrya deva mantra, that should be recited at least 108 times (1 mala).
om ̐ham̐ kham̐ khaḥ kholkaya svaha
ॐ हँ खँ खः खोल्काय स्वाहा
Sūrya devagayatrī mantra (सूर्य देव गायत्री मन्त्र) – (Recite 10 times)
bhaskaraya vidmahe mahadyutikaraya dhīmahi ।
tanno adityaḥ  pracodayat ॥
भस्कराय विद्महे महाद्युतिकराय धीमहि ।तन्नो आदित्यः  प्रचोदयात् ॥
Meaning:
The bīja (seed) mantra om̐ represents śabda brahman and is also called the pranava mantra or the primordial sound, the manifested super-consciousness in the form of sound and all syllables. All other sounds and waves are said to have emanated from this mantra.

The bīja (seed) mantra ham̐ represents the Hamsavatī Devi Matrka bīja (seed) mantraindicating the True Self and attaining liberation and merger with the eternal Self.

This is the last bīja in the word ‘aham’ representing the ego or the individual self, beginning with ‘a’, the creation and ending with ‘ham’ the liberation and merging with the True Self.

The matrka ham̐ merges us into the Divine at all times and keeps us immersed in the state of liberation.

The Khandita Matrka bīja (seed) mantra kham̐ represents detachment, severance, illumination. She also represents the triple śaktis of iccha (desire), jñana (knowledge) and kriya (action). She keeps us detached from the effects of the numerous triads and remains in a state of pure bliss.

The bīja (seed) mantra khaḥ, represents the culmination of all desires and the oneness with the divine through complete surrender. It is a state of ecstasy and pure bliss.

Kholkaya represents the brilliant star of our solar system, which is the Sun, the source of all light to the planets.
The svaha bīja (seed) mantra is for offering oblations and salutations to the deity and indicating our complete surrender and request to the deity to take charge of our destiny.

॥ 13. Samarpanam / समर्पणम् ॥

Take water in uttarani (spoon) and by reciting the following śloka, offer the water to the earth. guhyatiguhyagoptra tvaṁ grhanasmat-krtaṁ japam ।
siddhirbhavatu me deva tvatprasadanmayi sthira ॥
गुह्यातिगुह्यगोप्त्रा त्वं गृहाणास्मत्-कृतं जपम् ।
सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देव त्वत्प्रसादान्मयि स्थिरा ॥

॥ 14. japanamtaram malamantram / जपानंतरं मालामन्त्रं ॥

Recite the below śloka and mantra, followed by placing the mala upon the top of the head and then place it back in the mala bag and conceal it. It should NOT be worn. śloka ॥ om̐ tvam male sarvadevanam prītida śubhada bhava।
śubham kurusya me bhadre yaśo vīryam ca dehime॥
श्लोक॥ ॐ त्वं माले सर्वदेवानां प्रीतिदा शुभदा भव।
शुभं कुरुष्य मे भद्रे यशो वीर्यं च देहिमे॥
